Match Report: Sheffield Independent: 12th March 1920:

ROTHERHAM TOWN RESERVES V LEEDS UNITED

ROTHERHAM TOWN TOO GOOD FOR LEEDS UNITED

Clifton Lane Ground was in excellent condition yesterday, for the match between Rotherham Town and Leeds United. The opening exchanges were fairly even, the first corner accruing to the home right wing from a beautiful centre by Hill. Leeds were nippy and fast, and both goals were scenes of interest. Hill, who made a swift run, was brought down by Jagger, near the penalty area, but the free-kick was got rid of. A combined run by the home team led to an exciting scrimmage near the Leeds goal, where the defence was severely tested. Jeffries who had proved a fine custodian for Leeds, continued to display good form, and was kept constantly on the alert. Leeds were the first to become dangerous after the interval and soon had a fruitless corner. Eight minutes from the change of ends Turner dashed away in fine style and to prevent him scoring Tillotson tripped him in the penalty area. With the penalty kick Rippon gave Jeffries no chance, and netted the ball for Rotherham. Hill, twenty-five minutes from the interval made good use of an opening supplied to him by Walker and scored with a fine low shot a secoind goal for Rotherham. McGuire scored a third from Sharpe's centre with five minutes to go.
